Everybody Wants To Rue The World

Patti Smith is a long time favorite recording artist--warts and all. She's a much better role model than say, Madonna and that ilk. I like her cover of the Tears For Fears song better than the original version--though I do like their video.

I read once that she heard it in coffee shop or a mall somewhere in suburban Detroit and that it helped to inspire her to restart her career. Here's hoping.

  3. Huh! Normally I like Patti Smith...but I didn't really like her cover of this song!

  4. It just be me, Ron. I also like her rendition of Dylan's Changing Of The Guards; they're both from her 2007 comeback album called "Twelve."

  5. This is a good version. But then, it's such a dreamy/ethereal song that it's hard to see someone with a light enough voice mess it up. I mean, Lemmy from Motorhead might not be able to get it right. In any event...

    And happy new year!

  6. I'm not a music guy but I always liked Patti Smith. And, I loved Gilda Radner's bit on SNL.

  7. Rue: Middle English ruen, from Old English hrowan, to affect with grief, and hrowian, to repent.

While you may have known this prior to posting, I was surprised by the root tie to grief, previously believing rue to have more to do with regret/disappointment.

  8. I want to rule the world.

I plan to clone myself about a million times and send the clones out to infiltrate every single fast food joint in America. That's just the beginning of my evil plot.

My ventilation ducts will be too small to crawl through.

My noble half-brother whose throne I usurped will be killed, not kept anonymously imprisoned in a forgotten cell of my dungeon.

Shooting is not too good for my enemies.

The artifact which is the source of my power will not be kept on the Mountain of Despair beyond the River of Fire guarded by the Dragons of Eternity. It will be in my safe-deposit box. The same applies to the object which is my one weakness....

    etc.
