Yes, It Is She...

...in the photo, I mean.*


A "new" theory is going round that Titanic was in a race to get to New York before a controlled fire got out of control. We've been there before, back here.

*That's a gorgeous old photo and I did not know it until recently. Apparently, the black smudge on the hull is what supports the new theory (see link). It's supposed to be charred paint caused by an internal fire.

  1. That's interesting. I never heard that. Coal will combust in situations like that and if you don't keep the dust down in bunkers it will explode. Why didn't they flood that particular bunker?

    1. I suspect that there is a danger of creating a lot of steam when just dousing with water. The preferred method was to dig out the burning portion and feed it to the boilers.

      There is some more speculation here.
