Who Knows Where The Time Goes?

Dust Bunny Queen linked this video in a comment, which got me all interested in Sandy Denny. Sandy Denny recorded a duet with Robert Plant. I failed to acknowledge her back here: link

As for the question "Who Knows Where The Time Goes?"  I suspect that time is conserved somehow, like other physical quantities such as energy.

Thanks DBQ!

  1. You are channeling Jim Croce, eh?

  2. I'm not sure that there is such an objective thing as "time" in the sense that humans view it. Of course, it's real to us in a subjective sense. "The experience of the now means something special for man, something essentially different from the past and the future, but this important difference does not and cannot occur within physics.'' (Einstein)

When quantum mechanics, the tremendously successful theory of atoms and subatomic particles, is taken into account, the challenge becomes greater still. Quantum mechanics has, at its core, the uncertainty principle, which establishes a limit on how precisely particular features of the microworld can be simultaneously measured. The more precise the measurement of one feature (a particle's position for example), the more wildly uncertain a complementary feature (its velocity) becomes.

(clears throat) But chemists don't bother themselves with such trivialities. If it's after 5pm, El Pollo Real may mix his martinis for the enjoyment of all, knowing that despite the misalignment of one quark or another, the beverage will still turn out perfect!

I looked for time in a bottle but found only waist.

  4. @LL You wanna hear my take on Bohr and Heisenberg?

The closest I ever got to the spookiness of was zero-point energy and isotope effects. I used to practically live there.

  5. Isotope effects on chemical reaction rates and equilibria that is.

  6. @LL: I did write something about chemistry and time back here: link

  7. And of course I have a "Time For Cocktails" tag with favorite drink recipes. Hmmm, that reminds me of something.

    1. Personal priorities are not considered by universal grand theories, but the sunset, good food and good friends have a gravity all their own.

  8. I've eaten in the Croce widow restaurant in San Diego. It's ok but overrated.

  9. ndspinelli - Yeah, I've eaten there too. Astrid Croce (widow) isn't really pushing for cuisine, more for a memory vibe. Once was enough, but that's how they charge IMHO. I don't think that they're intent on keeping the repeat customers.

  10. LL, Agreed. They're in the Gaslamp, which as you know, has a few places for San Diegans but mostly tourists restaurants. Hers is the latter.
